I stand on the shoulders of giants.
A very long time ago, eleven Giants were all that was. Through their combined imagination, a world was born within their minds, and so Ur came alive. Within this world they each made many creations of their choosing, and watched over them all, governing each part of Ur together, ensuring their world was safe, balanced, and prosperous for all living in it.
There was Lem, who guarded exploration;
Friendly, denizen of the night;
Cosma, goddess of the sky;
Mab, who tended to the earth;
Tii, master of numbers;
Grendaline, priestess of the depths;
Zille, the spirit of the mountains;
Pot, the bringer of wealth;
Spriggan, the father of the trees;
Humbaba, who watched over all animals;
and Alph, who prized hard work.
Once they had thought of the world of Ur, the Eleven joined together to birth the Glitchen, beings capable of creating their own Imagination and building their own creations within Ur. The Giants loved the Glitchen as their children; the Glitchen revered the Giants as their makers. Ur was love and infinite possibilities, and it was good.
One day, the giant Humbaba said unto his brother Alph, "Where, in this land of our own imaginiation, lies the boundary?" And Alph said "No-where. We create what we wish, with our own thoughts and our own strengths."
And so Humbaba thought of his creatures; the animals who traversed both Cosma's sky, Grendaline's seas, and Mab's land.
Alph thought of the Glitchen, whom he had taught to build great machines alongside Tii, to work Zille's great towering mountains, and to walk Friendly's night.
They thought of these things until they began to mix, creating something entirely new - a person who was both animal and Glitchen, and they named it Eight, for it was born of eight Giants.
The Giants spoke to the new being within their world of Ur, and it spoke back - never before had they directly conversed with their own creations. Eight was able to walk and understand the world of Ur in its entirety; it loved to learn, to collect, to build. And though they had not been present for its birth, therein lay the essence of the other three Giants, too - Spriggan's love for his trees, Lem's need for exploration, and Pot's fondness for value. Eight was the child of everything the Giants loved, and so Eight loved Ur.
"I," said Eight. For Eight was an "I". They thought and breathed and moved with the winds, they leaped from trees and walked the forest paths, they made friends among the Glitchen. For many years, Ur was happy. But over time, corruption spread from its core, devouring parts of Ur until the Giants had no choice but to stop thinking about it in order to preserve what was left.
Eight did not slumber like the other things. All things slept when the Giants ceased their thinking - but Eight remained awake, speaking to their creators all the while as they fought to repair their world. Eight was strange; Eight was new. There was nothing to be done but wait.
Ur is now alive once more, and Eight walks its streets, doing what they can to assist the Giants in their repairs. Accompanied by a few of their awakened Glitchen friends, they traverse the world, working tirelessly to restore it to what it once was.
